Every educator can give their purpose in being at a school, but the problem is that the purpose often lacks the focus that Terry references here. Goals should be measurable, so when a teacher says that they are there "to educate," then that explanation falls short. Instead, a statement like, "By the end of the year, every one of my students will increase their reading ability by 2 grade levels" is a much better.
Concrete goals lead to concrete action.
Leaders with a clear, focused, purpose-driven approach, position their organization for success. Can everyone in your school or district clearly and consistently say its purpose?
