Ok folks. It’s time we talked about eels.
I’m a geologist but I recently learnt about eels and… wow.
Since then, I’ve been greeting strangers with ‘DO YOU KNOW ABOUT EELS?!’
Well, consider yourself a stranger in my path.
Strap in. It’s a 🧵

The FIRST #GarLab publication led by a graduate student has been ACCEPTED!
ConGARtulations @Atfredri and team (@g_rieucau@quentonfontenot A.Lackmann)!

That's our #GARtwork series successfully completed!! Here's all the seven gar illustrations scaled to their sizes. Again, can't thank you enough @SolomonRDavid for your guidance throughout, was a great experience working on this project!

SO PROUD of @SarahFontana814 & @Atfredri for successfully defending their theses! They were also the first @NichollsBiology to defend virtually.
It’s been a privilege working with them as the first cohort of #GarLab grad students!
Yesterday I successfully defended my master's which focused on developing a non-lethal stable isotope sampling method for Spotted and Alligator Gar. Today I wear my Gator Gar cape proudly.
Well fun fact: I didn’t section these ones. I am supposed to be learning from them on how to age my own otoliths. But I’m having a hard time getting the same answers. Left is 7 and right is 2 according to the professionals.
Attended the Madisonville Gar Rodeo. The participants were kind enough to let me take fin and muscle clips from their catches to use for stable isotope analysis. These samples will be used to create a non-lethal sampling mode for future studies! They won’t die in vain!
