Spotted Gar spawning project begins!
Today @NichollsBiology grad students from Bayousphere Research Lab & @TheGarLab injected broodstock fish!
We expect spawning activity ~24-48 hrs, eggs laid ~48-72 hrs! Some embryos will be shipped to @FishEvoDevoGeno for genomics research!

Diyarbakir (Batman River) loach for #SundayFishSketch prompt to “draw a rare fish” suggested by @Freshwatergirl. This critically endangered species featured by “@Shoal_Org’s Lost Fishes” was recently rediscovered after not being seen since 1974 by a Turkish research team.

Here is an Australian lungfish - an ancient lungfish that evolved around 400 million years ago for today's #SundayFishSketch. The species in considered endangered and they are known to possess a lung to breath atmospheric oxygen!
