Looking back at the Global Democracy Coalition Europe Forum 2025
Last year in Milan, democracy leaders and advocates came together at the Global Democracy Coalition Europe Forum, hosted by our partner
@AtlasMovement , to reflect on the challenges facing Europe and the world and on what it truly takes to defend democracy.
One message was clear. Democracy is more than elections. As
@KenRoth, attorney and human rights activist, reminded us, autocrats often use elections to create the illusion of legitimacy without its real substance.
Throughout the Forum, the importance of shared vision and common purpose echoed strongly.
@gkatr, UN Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order, highlighted that powerful narratives must be rooted in common interests.
@Tsihanouskaya , Belarusian democratic leader, reminded us that the fight for freedom is global. And
@dikabernard, Spokesperson for the President of the Tuscany Region, underscored a reality we cannot ignore: no nation can tackle global inequality alone.
The Europe Forum 2025 showed that defending democracy requires more than analysis. It requires vision. Solidarity. And action at local, national, and global levels.
As we look ahead to the 2026 regional forums, we carry forward not only insights, but renewed energy, partnerships, and responsibility. Because democracy does not defend itself. And it needs champions now more than ever.
