It is my great honour to represent Australia as the new Ambassador to Germany. I look forward to working with our 🇩🇪 partners on our shared priorities and interests. I am excited to get to know this beautiful country‘s culture and history – and, of course, share ours in return.
It was only a few months ago that I welcomed the German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius to Canberra. Today, alongside our Foreign Ministers @SenatorWong and Dr. Johann Wadephul, we were able to meet again and start to discuss a Status of Forces Agreement, which will make it much easier for our defence forces to operate from each other’s countries. We will work together with a shared commitment of reaching an in-principle agreement in text by the end of 2026.
The Indo-Pacific and Europe could not be further apart geographically, but the rules-based order is deeply important to both of our countries. It's fantastic to work so closely with Germany as our partner in the aim of promoting international peace, stability and the rules-based international order.
In a rapidly changing, increasingly contested world, Australia is strengthening and diversifying our relationships. Today @RichardMarlesMP and I met with German FM Wadephul and Defence Minister Pistorius for the first joint meeting of our Defence and Foreign Ministers since 2021.
G’day & welcome to Berlin, @SenatorWong. Today’s 2 2 meeting with @RichardMarlesMP & Boris Pistorius shows that Australia & 🇩🇪 are close partners shaping security together: from freedom of navigation to energy security. Thank you for your strong support for Ukraine. @AussenMinDE
Australia & Germany are particularly close partners - today’s 2 2 meeting of our foreign and defence ministers underlines that. Together, we want to shape security and therefore further strengthen our partnership. @AussenMinDE 1/4

As dawn breaks across the world this Anzac Day, Australian Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates pause to commemorate.
From ceremonies in PNG, Japan, London and Jordan, we remember those who lost their lives.
Lest we forget.
Today, on ANZAC Day, we remember and give thanks for the service of all of our Defence Force personnel.
It was an honour to join the Dawn Service at South Australia’s War Memorial to pay tribute to those who have fallen in the service of our nation. Lest we forget.
2026 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program
Today, the Australian Government released the 2026 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program, setting out a clear plan to respond to Australia’s strategic circumstances and keep Australians safe.
Together, the 2026 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program documents outline how Defence will identify, prioritise and deliver the capabilities needed in an increasingly dangerous and unpredictable strategic environment.
The 2026 Integrated Investment Program includes an additional $14 billion over the next four years and $53 billion over the decade, through Defence funding, estate modernisation and alternative financing where appropriate.
This significant increase in investment is supported by major reforms, including the establishment of the Defence Delivery Agency and the Government’s response to the Estate Audit, ensuring stronger accountability, value for money and faster delivery of capability.

Our defence partnerships are more important now than ever before.
That’s why we’re working with Germany to strengthen cooperation between our defence forces and defence industries, so we can continue to support the global rules-based border and ensure the security of our respective regions.
A trade deal with the world’s second-largest economy, the European Union, gives Australians something to smile about - a competitive edge at a key moment in global trade.
Worlds apart, but now closer than ever 🇦🇺🇪🇺
Australia and Europe are taking our relationship to the next level with a once in a generation Free Trade Agreement and Security and Defence Partnership.
More jobs. More security. More local products in global markets.
And in an increasingly uncertain world, these relationships matter.
Because when we work together, we’re stronger than ever.
The EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement is a once-in-a-generation deal that will unlock a massive, high-income market for Australian exporters.
It will also make many European goods more affordable for Australian consumers.
