Neon employee reading this tweet: “dang, I was going to spend the weekend having it fix our downtime. Oh well”
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Friendly reminder to all the Postgres providers. If you’ve ever felt insecure about your database business. Just remember, it’s not doing well financially either.

“Welcome back, you’ve been in a coma for 5 years” “How profitable is supabase now? 100 million net profit? 200?” “Actually they just raised 500m to cover their free plan growth”

If you think some of these VC stories are bad. In a few years I’ll share what a guy like me had to go through to get $100m.

AvgDB has raised $10B at a 500M valuation In this round we are giving @avgdatabase employees 25% off their next Uber Eats order, up to $15 a small merit increase tied to inflation. On top of that, this raise will allow us to keep our free tier going indefinitely, as well as buy a new office for the team so we can do our best work whether it’s on the high seas on the top deck or on the helipad

Regarding the supabase 10B valuation LOL to Nikita. If your company didn’t go bankrupt and have to get bailed out by Databricks, you could have helped more than just yourself get rich. Sold out right before the AI revolution.

Neon can’t keep a database operational for a month. Tpuf is a real, actual serious business. Absolutely no one wants to replicate the “Neon standard”

Another Neon “downtime DB” customer migration. lol
Also btw this is a Neon/LakeBase migration. Reliability issues with Neon - connection dropouts, periodic restarts and more. Costs and lack of ClickHouse native integration are other reasons.

It’s been eye-opening to see the pain one of our competitor Postgres services has caused to customers we are working with. I’ve never seen anything like this for an OLTP Postgres database: connection dropouts, restarts, outages, and more and all of this every few weeks! At the same time, there are all these wild claims about the “fastest Postgres”, how agents need millions of databases, and more. The essential trait of any Postgres/OLTP database, whether in the AI world or before it, is simple: It should never ever crash! The stories we’re hearing from customers are absolutely wild. I really hate commenting on competitors like this, but I couldn’t resist this one mainly because of the pain they are causing and all the marketing misinformation around!

Everyone in our industry hears this as we all pick customers away from Neon. They are negligent and it’s hilarious they plan to get into compute next.

If we locked all the database CEOs in a room. Just a text editor. No LLM access. Which one could build a basic working database first?
