April 8, 1945 – 🇯🇵First prototype flight of the Japanese twin-engine heavy fighter Rikugun Ki-93, キ93は , designated “1” .
The aircraft was powered by two 1,970-horsepower Mitsubishi Ha-214 radial engines. The only flight of the Ki-93 lasted 20 minutes and took off from Tachikawa Airfield. It was piloted by Lt. Moriya of the Aircraft Acceptance Department, with 2nd Lt. Ikebayashi as co-pilot.
Upon landing, the pilot overshot the runway and touched down on soft ground. The aircraft was seriously damaged.
It was repaired in six weeks, but on the eve of its new “maiden flight,” a Boeing B-29 attack destroyed the hangar at the Tachikawa factory where it was housed.
This time, it was irreparably destroyed.
