⚽ Scrappy living-room goal-line tech, built on @AxeleraAI Metis:
- Stock COCO @ultralytics yolo26s, ball = "sports ball" class
- ~250 fps detection on Metis (was the bottleneck on laptop, now it's OpenCV drawing)
- Goal only counts if it crosses the line between the posts
A full-on AI referee at home, next stop the #WorldCup!

A checkout transaction lasts one or two seconds. If item-verification has to round-trip to a cloud GPU and back, the moment is gone before the answer arrives.
It's the same reason POS itself moved to the edge years ago. The network drops, but the till can NOT. Vision AI inherits exactly that constraint: streaming raw video off-site for inference falls over on cost, latency, and the days the uplink has a wobble. So the brief writes itself. Local inference, low watts, works with the cameras already up there, cheap enough per lane that the rollout actually escapes the pilot phase.
Three reference builds (loss prevention, shelf analytics, click-and-collect) for anyone building in the smart-retail space right now 👇

This excellent case study by @WGTech and @Ultralytics demonstrates 28% fewer safety violations, which sounds like an AI accuracy story. It more than that, though.
The model isn't catching MORE incidents. It's preventing them. Which means workers are changing behaviour, and that's a feedback loop story rather a detection story. The loop only works because inference happens at the edge. Send the video to the cloud, wait a few seconds, the unsafe moment is already over and the chance to correct it is gone. Local processing is what makes the behaviour changes stick.
Great write-up from on this exciting deployment in India, so don't miss it 👇

Voyager SDK v1.6.1 is out, and it's the kind of release that quietly makes a lot of things better. 🛠️
→ Windows PCIe driver perf closer to Linux (needs Metis Driver 1.3.2 )
→ M.2 Max closed-loop power control fixed, default now 8.5W, tunable 4–11W
→ Metis PCIe Rev.2 now supports 2 GB and 8 GB DDR variants
→ New docs portal at eu1.hubs.ly/H0v_p630
→ List of fixes: multi-stream video output, tiled inference, semantic seg, OpenGL renderer

Shrink always gets the headlines when talking about retail, but empty shelves quietly do similar damage: roughly 23% of customers go to a competitor when they hit a gap where their product should be.
A single 1-chip Metis PCIe card (214 TOPS) in a back-of-house PC can run detection plus tracking across the ceiling cameras you already have. Shelf cameras report gaps, entrance cameras report footfall, checkout cameras flag queue length so a lane opens before the line builds.
No camera rip-and-replace, no cloud round-trip, and it keeps running through the next dodgy uplink outage just like the POS does. It's a powerhouse starting point anyone working in smart retail or building POS systems. Full build options and model choices are right here 👇

Multi-model person-of-interest ID weapon detection, built on the Voyager SDK.
The "weapon" was a lightsaber (Count Dooku's hilt). The specs were real though! 👇
3x 4-chip Metis cards, 48 AIPU cores → 2.5 PetaOPS, 1,440 model inferences/sec across multiple 8K streams at 30-58W/card.

The full AI stack cannot be sovereign. That was one of the sharper arguments made at Web Summit Vancouver last week, where our CEO Fabrizio Del Maffeo joined Shivam Kishore, Maria Luisa Aldim, and Eoin Higgins on the panel "Getting AI right: From tech sovereignty to digital transformation."
The building blocks of AI cross borders by design. Pretending otherwise does not protect nations. It slows them down.
The future is decentralized compute, built on global collaboration, not closed ecosystems driven by regulatory fear.
