Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland. We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard. With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.” Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

US president Donald Trump’s Iran foreign policy summed up in one classic cartoon: bomb Teheran today, negotiate tomorrow, check Wall Street in between😊! (Sounds funny but also seems uncannily true!)

We’re all wondering why this war was started in the first place.. and concluding that war hawks like you persuaded President Trump it would be a good idea. It wasn’t.
If a deal is struck to end the Iranian conflict because it is believed that the Strait of Hormuz cannot be protected from Iranian terrorism and Iran still possesses the capability to destroy major Gulf oil infrastructure, then Iran will be perceived as being a dominate force requiring a diplomatic solution. This combination of Iran being perceived as having the ability to terrorize the Strait in perpetuity and the ability the inflict massive damage to Gulf oil infrastructure is a major shift of the balance of power in the region and over time will be a nightmare for Israel. Also, it makes one wonder why the war started to begin with if these perceptions are accurate. I personally am a skeptic of the idea that Iran cannot be denied the ability to terrorize the Strait and the region cannot protect itself against Iranian military capability. It is important we get this right.

In this regard, I would like to thank the tireless efforts of Honorable Prime Minister H.E. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, especially H.E. Mr. Ishaq Dar, Honorable Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and other relevant agencies. Temperatures in Lahore forecasted to go up to 44°C.
Lahore is expected to hit 42°C today. Punjab senior government ministers and bureaucrats travelled to 20°C Baku (austerity measures?) while Punjab continues to wait for emergency heat measures. Not the first heatwave either, yet still no clear Heat Action Plan. Some ideas from across the border. In Delhi, the Heat Action Plan 2024-25 identifies street vendors as among the most vulnerable to extreme heat. Recommendations include improving water supply at markets, setting up more health centres, and promoting night-time trading so vendors don’t lose a day’s income by avoiding daytime heat.
