Long before it flew at ballgames and front porches across America, the flag flying over Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine became a symbol of survival during the War of 1812.
After enduring hours of British bombardment, the fort’s enormous flag remained standing at sunrise, inspiring “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

It's Police Week. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in #WashingtonDC honors federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people. The memorial features two curving, marble walls inscribed with the names of more than 22,000 officers who died in the line of duty, dating back to the first known death in 1786.
