I get that rail is important to millions as a service, but it is also how I make a living. I post in a personal capacity, often in the context of it being my job, rather than as a general commentary of the service. I do like to have a little fun with it. I hope you understand.

One thing I would add is that, in fairness, it is very rare for Gatwick to be cut off from London entirely by rail. Let’s hope the next time is far into the future!
Yesterday’s infrastructure failure on the Brighton Mainline, severing Gatwick Airport from London, should give DfT pause for thought. Coming so soon after something similar on the Heathrow branch - it’s a bad look for the UK and really, pretty unacceptable.

Humans do pointless, self-defeating stupidity really really well 😂
How far is FIFA going with its brand restrictions? The condiments at the Levi’s Stadium press box have all been taped over 😆

In both cases, engineering works exacerbated the situation. At Heathrow it was no Tube service as an alternative and yesterday on the BML the slow lines at Stoats Nest Jn were under possession (though depending on the failure, they may also have been blocked had they been open).

The UK is fast gaining a reputation for being a dysfunctional state with crumbling infrastructure and no money available to put things right. The govt really needs to get a handle on it, or we may continue to see queues of thousands of fed up travellers at airports. @Heidi_Labour

Following the discovery of sinkholes on a bridge outside of Purley, we had to close the railway between Purley and East Croydon, affecting journeys to Gatwick Airport Sink holes were spotted on the bridge, meaning that ballast, the stones that the track sits on, was falling through the gap, making the track unstable We've since carried out a thorough inspection of the bridge and are working to safely plug the gaps so that trains can safely run again We're sorry for the disruption this has caused to passengers in the meantime

Code Black on the mainline since lunchtime. It’s my weekend off though so I’m enjoying our first family World Cup viewing with one of those German beers from Sainos that everyone is raving about.

Scotland could beat Brazil. Not sure they’ll live with Morocco though, on this evidence.

I am not going to overdo it on the football here, but there may be some bits and bobs.

Possibly the most famous World Cup ground of all time. The absolute aura of the place. 🤩
The amazing Estadio Azteca. What a view. A stadium steeped in history. Pele and Maradona both won World Cups here. The Hand of God goal… goal of the century… so many memories and now inside it feels really special ⚽️

This World Cup will struggle to top the last Euros for me. I watched England beat Switzerland on pens on a big screen in the Jardim do Morro in Porto, setting sun over the city and river Douro for a backdrop. Had some Aussies backing the Swiss sat next to me so victory was sweet!

Staggered back from Vila Nova de Gaia over the Ponte Luis I after a few too many well priced Super Bocks and had a Maccies followed by a late night Pastel de Nata and a glass of Tawny Port. It was a glorious night.

If that were here, DfT would be in to stamp it out and make a right mess
