Epic. 17-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus threw the haymaker on the Olympic champ from 500-700m (12.6 then 12.8) Wanyonyi answered w/ the fastest last 100 in the field—12.7 to Cooper's 13.1 —but it wasn't enough. Lutkenhaus wins by 0.01. 1:42.08 WL & PB 👏

On Sunday, I was surprised by Vincent Mauri’s 2:05:53 marathon debut at the Glass City Marathon in Toledo. The fastest ever by an American. Then, we dove into his Strava and I spoke to him about his self-coached training today. I’ve never been more fascinated by someone’s approach. Some things that stood out… -5.6 miles at 5:48/mi the day before his marathon -Ripped a few 200s closing in 26 five days before - 19 miles at 5:31 seven days out…on the treadmill -Wasn’t even planning on Toledo until Carmel was canceled – Does almost all his training in non-carbon-plated shoes Gosh, the marathon is such a cool event. So may different approaches to run fast. FULL INTERVIEW: 🎧 APPLE PODCASTS: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… 🎧 SPOTIFY: open.spotify.com/episode/29K… 🎥 YOUTUBE: youtu.be/hFpuGaEQ1X8?si=9y5O…

Zeus: so two guys ran sub 2 hour marathons today Pheidippidies: holy shit, I guess I’m going to meet them any second now Zeus, unsure of how to soften the blow: No, they’re actually totally okay. In fact you were basically the only person to ever die from a marathon

HELLO AGAIN! 👋 Allyson Felix, the most decorated female track and field athlete in Olympic history, tells TIME that she is coming out of retirement to pursue a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics at age 42. Her goal is to qualify for the Olympic Trials and make the relay pool. She last competed at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. According to TIME, Felix pitched the idea to her brother and business partner Wes last June with a formal presentation titled "Project Six" as a reference to her attempt to make a sixth Olympic Games. A full training schedule is set to begin in October under longtime coach Bobby Kersee. She expects to return to competition sometime in 2027. She doesn't expect to compete regularly on the global circuit in an effort to try and stay close to her two children (7-year-old daughter Camryn and two-year-old son Trey).

You don’t see this too often. Nike congratulates Adidas marathoner Sabastian Sawe on his 1:59:30 marathon world record. Today, Sawe broke Kelvin Kiptum’s 2:00:35 world record and became the first man to run  first sub-2:00 marathon on a record-eligible course. Eliud Kipchoge did it in 2019 but it was not record-eligible.

Reminder that Sabastian Sawe's sponsor adidas spent $50,000 for him to be drug-tested out of competition as much as possible in 2025 and are doing the same thing in 2026. Today in London, he became the first man to break 2:00 in an official marathon. letsrun.com/news/2026/04/how…

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Very few people appreciate what America lost when we lost newspapers. Just being able to sit down every morning in silence and peruse news, opinion, sports, advice, recipes, interesting human interest stories all in one place was such a pleasure. The Internet has never produced anything that comes close.
