Novelist @BPlatzer says writers shouldn’t take character names too seriously. Sometimes the goal is simple: make them memorable… even if that means inventing someone like “Syzlvia Gorog.” But the novel behind the jokes comes from a much heavier place. Platzer’s book The Optimists was inspired by a beloved teacher and mentor who suffered a stroke and lost the ability to communicate. Platzer gave him a voice again through fiction. Brian Platzer joins The Gist to talk about writing, teaching middle school, and turning real life into a novel. The Gist Podcast is published daily @ 6pm ET #Writing #Authors #Books #Teachers #TheGist

What a week in New York City. We weathered one of the biggest snowstorms in decades, but it did not slow us down. On Tuesday, Skyline’s President, Scott Powell, attended the book launch for The Optimists by distinguished Grace Church School teacher, @BPlatzer, at The Great Hall at Cooper Union. Mr. Platzer was introduced by the incredibly talented Sarah Jessica Parker, followed by a reception at Grace Church High School in Greenwich Village, where Scott’s daughter Caitlyn Powell is a proud 2025 graduate. On Wednesday, Scott represented Skyline in meeting with Stacey Mueller, Director of Development at @RiceUniversity, to discuss philanthropic support for the University’s continued expansion, including its recently launched undergraduate business program, where his daughter Alena Powell is currently a junior majoring in Finance. That evening, Scott attended a violin performance at The Down Town Association by award-winning soloist Claire Edwards. The week concluded at the @OTCMarkets Australia Investor Day Conference in New York, reconnecting with colleagues and friends including Matthew Liteplo, Stephen Shipley, and Robert Power. A week defined by leadership, education, philanthropy, culture, and capital markets engagement. #InvestorRelations #CapitalMarkets #CorporateLeadership #Philanthropy #OTCMarkets

Here’s the A Better Billion website and report. Hopefully, @ZohranKMamdani and staff play around with it. I’m sure he’d love it. We aren’t bringing back the 9, but lots of great stuff: transitcosts.com/a-better-bi…
