For years, Puerto Ricans in Humboldt Park, my neighbors, have organized to end the unacceptable colonial status of Puerto Rico. We are clear that any legislation that attempts to address the future of the archipelago by reinforcing colonialism betrays Puerto Ricans and every person committed to ending the long-standing imperialism of the United States.
As we approach July 4th, we must affirm the fundamental freedom that was sought, but has been continuously denied to so many: No kings, NO COLONIES.
