Yesterday, I questioned the Chair of the EHRC about the new Code of Practice, and the harm it poses to trans people and others who do not conform to gender stereotypes.
The Code suggests employees of a business or a service should enforce restrictions based on evidence such as βthe individualβs physique or physical appearance, behaviour or concerns raised by other service users.β When asked to specify what these would be, the Chair couldn't answer and instead spoke about βcommon senseβ.
The truth is that people would be relying on gender stereotypes, which are harmful not only for trans people but for others as well.
