There is no longer a sound basis for development cooperation with Belgium. Accordingly, Rwanda is suspending the remainder of the 2024-2029 bilateral aid program with Belgium.

🇪🇺🇨🇩🇷🇼 We welcome the resolution of the @Europarl_EN , adopted on 13 February by a large majority, notably under the leadership of @MounirSatouri and @hildevautmans. This resolution urges the Rwandan government to withdraw its troops from Congolese territory and to stop cooperating with the M23 armed group. In the context of a war of aggression and occupation of the DRC resulting in serious human rights violations, the Parliament is right to call on the @EuroCommission and the Member States to suspend direct budgetary aid as well as military and security assistance to Rwanda, to freeze all aid and to immediately suspend the EU-Rwanda Memorandum of Understanding on raw materials as part of the Global Gateway strategy. We hope that the other European institutions and European countries will follow the voice of elected representatives and that the EU will consistently defend its fundamental values in its relations with the rest of the world.

🇪🇺🇨🇩🇷🇼 Nous saluons la résolution du Parlement Européen @Europarl_EN , adoptée ce 13 février à une large majorité notamment sous l’impulsion de @MounirSatouri et de @hildevautmans . Cette résolution presse le gouvernement rwandais de retirer ses troupes du territoire congolais et de cesser de coopérer avec le groupe armé M23. Dans le contexte d’une guerre d’agression et d’occupation de la #RDCongo entraînant de graves violations des droits humains, c’est à juste titre que le Parlement demande à la @EuroCommission et aux États membres de suspendre l’aide budgétaire directe et l’assistance militaire et sécuritaire au Rwanda, de geler toute aide et de suspendre immédiatement le protocole d’accord UE-Rwanda sur les matière premières dans le cadre de la stratégie du Global Gateway . Nous aspirons à ce que les autres institutions européennes et les pays européens suivent la voix des élus et que l’UE défende avec cohérence ses valeurs fondamentales dans ses relations avec le reste du monde.

Nous saluons le fait que le Conseil des Droits de l'Homme des Nations Unies 🇺🇳@UN_HRC, exige le retrait de l’armée rwandaise 🇷🇼 et du M23 des zones occupées au Nord & au Sud Kivu et soutenons la décision du Conseil de créer une mission d’établissement des faits & une commission d’enquête indépendante sur les graves violations des droits humains et du DIH commises dans l’Est de la #RDC 🇨🇩. Il ne pourra y avoir de paix durable dans la région des Grands Lacs africains sans mettre fin à la culture de l’impunité dont jouissent les auteurs et les commanditaires des crimes les plus graves.

We support the Council's decision to establish a fact-finding mission & an independent commission of inquiry into the serious violations of human rights and IHL committed in eastern #DRC 🇨🇩. There can be no lasting peace in the African Great Lakes region without putting an end to the culture of impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators and sponsors of the most serious crimes.
