It’s every writer’s worst nightmare: an acceptance followed by a retraction. And it’s becoming more common. “Changed minds, newly discovered sources of offense, people having ‘serious second thoughts.’ What is up with all this waffling about?” Excellent read here from @BeckyLTuch and again, thank you for including me!
Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences with this! litmagnews.substack.com/p/q-…

"Dear writer, After careful consideration we decided we won’t be moving forward with your work. It’s offensive. We won’t say why, or how, or to whom. We won’t say why we liked it then and do not like it now. Nor will we say whether it’s your work or you, personally, we find offensive. You can safely assume it’s more or less a mix of both. Best of luck sorting out this heap of trash we’ve just dumped in your lap. Yours truly, Editors"

I just learned that some news sites I've linked to over the years have closed. Which means Lit Mag News will be the main archive for a lot of lit mag history unavailable elsewhere. Kind of neat.😊

Could not stand this book. Bored to tears.
One of the best books of the 21st century? Seriously? I'm two thirds through this book and it does nothing to me. Those who have read it, what do you think?

Sometimes I'm halfway through writing an article and I realize I need to reach out to one of the parties mentioned for comment. And when I do, a whole different picture emerges. I've had to scrap entire articles. Point being, sometimes you think you know the full story. And you really do not.

I'm collecting stories from writers who've had acceptances RETRACTED from editors. If this is you, please share!

If I had a nickel for every recent article I've seen that begins "The Real Scandal Isn't That AI Wrote a Prize-Winning Story. It's X..." Why must the scandal be elsewhere? Why are so many telling us that the likely use of AI wasn't the *real* scandal? It's uncanny how many are using this framing.

So litmags are turning into f-boys now? Retracting an acceptance is like saying, “I know I told you I love you, but I’m actually not ready for a commitment right now.” 😂 The nerve! 😠

Wow, the National Writers Union has entered the chat! (This is a comment on my recent interview with an editor of a mag, who is affiliated with Hong Kong Writers Circle.)

Of all the song titles I've used for my newsletter over the years (and I've used thousands!), this one might just be my favorite. Read all the news in lit mags here! litmagnews.substack.com/p/al…
