NHS boss says the main way to improve health service cybersecurity is fixing the basics like "multi-factor authentication, out-of-support kit [and] weak passwords”. ...Not entirely reassuring from @BenClover hsj.co.uk/technology-and-inn…

Nearly 50 NHS trusts that perform well on patient care have been downgraded because they are in deficit. But analysis of NHS England's own figures shows two-thirds of those are under-funded - raising questions about the fairness of the new league tables (link below)

This graph (red dots actual performance v the grey line trajectory needed to hit the government's waiting list target) shows why NHS leaders are concerned about the waiting list ambition veering off track
The waiting list change was 11,998 in August, worse than the latest trajectory for restoring 18 weeks which required -67,159. The waiting list size was overall 230,438 worse than the latest trajectory. As a simple rule, the wait list must shrink every single month. #nhswaits

I can only talk from an orthopaedic standpoint & particularly from hip & knee surgery as that’s my area. Referrals are going up. Locally MSK triage services seem overwhelmed; once patients finally get through and are referred on there is a 16w wait for an appointment with us.
The government has made just ONE promise on NHS performace: to shrink the elective waiting list. So far, whatever it might say, that is not happening

A chilling sentence from a coroner's report into the death of a 2y/o: "medical staff at the Whittington did not recognise the lack of nursing observations. Observations were thought to be acceptable bcos they were not reported as otherwise, when in fact they were absent"

Emergency Alert day has been confirmed as 7th September. If you have a secret phone for safety go to settings and turn off all government notifications. Setting it to silent or airplane is not enough 🚨 (guidance on each step is on the internet). Spread the word

The attack on US EPRs is v.notable considering how much the NHS spends on them. The relative lack of mention of FDP also significant considering how much is spent with not uncontroversial firm Palantir

What is happening in the NHS?! Now there is NO REQUIREMENT to have a SINGLE DOCTOR ON SITE in Urgent Treatment Centres?! I worked in UTCs b/w 2020-23 & dealt with EVERYTHING from unwell kids to acute anaphylaxis Doctor replacement is out to control & a HUGE RISK to the public
Genuinely shocked by the dilution of standards around the running of Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs). Let's take a look! 1. UTCs used to be GP-delivered services. Then GP-led and MDT-delivered. Now NO mandate for ANY doctors to be involved in leadership of the service. 1/
