Heat wave! In the uplands of England we’re fortunate to have a cooling breeze, most of the time. Still, shade helps the beef cattle and, by law, I have to provide it at 32c and above. I’ve planted thousands of trees on the farm; shade and shelter were key reasons. Right now, I have to use the tree cover I have wisely. The portable water trough means I can easily graze in shade during the day, then, in the open overnight. Eat real red meat and animal fat; buy the best you can.

Are farmers within their rights to warn dog owners about incidents like this, which was seen in Scotland a few years ago? Would you feel comfortable if they did?

If you want to do one simple thing for wildlife, please speak to your local council and claim a verge for nature. I did & I feel great! Don’t deal with your councillors they only do what is good for their careers!
