Full on day today, and that’s pretty standard for a Reform councillor.
Kicked off this morning with casework in Whitwick, helping local residents cut through the usual council red tape. Then straight over to Birstall for the 10am annual meeting of the Combined Fire Authority for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Then home, changed into proper work clothes, and cracked on with the day job for the rest of the afternoon. Straight after that, headed out to the relaunch of the Mid Leicestershire branch at 6:30. And even managed to get back just in time for the England game. 🏴
That’s the reality of this role, there’s no neat 9-5. One day you’re buried in local disputes and constituent problems, the next it’s meetings and branch work, and some days it’s quieter on the council front. But you’re never really off. Phone’s always on. People need help at all hours, and that’s part of the job.
I’ve still got a normal life to balance too, proper work, normal responsibilities, the lot. Most councillors do. The difference is you’re always on call, always ready to step in when your residents need you.
It’s demanding, but it’s worth it. This is how you deliver for ordinary people instead of just talking about it.
Now… come on England! 🏴
