The Gospel is not about what we do for God. It is about what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Paul wrote, “By grace you have been saved through faith… not of works” (Ephesians 2:8-9). The moment a person believes the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God sets them apart as His own. We are sanctified through faith in Christ, not by our own efforts. “By one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14). God chose us “for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:13). Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). When we believe the Gospel—that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4); we are washed, justified, and sanctified in His name (1 Corinthians 6:11). Because of faith in Jesus Christ, the child of God is no longer sin conscious. Under the New Agreement, the Father and the Son completely dealt with sin at the Cross, removing both its guilt and condemnation for all who believe. God now says, “Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Hebrews 10:17), and through the blood of Christ our consciences are cleansed from dead works (Hebrews 9:14). Satan continues to accuse and condemn, but Jesus has already justified us, for “there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Religion keeps people focused on their failures, while faith in Christ keeps believers focused on His finished work. By one sacrifice He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified (Hebrews 10:14), and God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them (2 Corinthians 5:19). When you believed the Gospel, God forgave all your sins forever through the Blood of His Son. He no longer counts your sins against you because Christ paid for them all at the cross. Believing in the true Gospel of Jesus Christ isn’t about rules or religion for me. It’s about two beautiful things God has freely given: the Ministry of Reconciliation and the Ministry of the Spirit. Through Jesus, God reconciled the world to Himself, not counting our sins against us, and now He invites us to be His ambassadors of peace and love. At the same time, His Holy Spirit makes us new, giving us life, freedom, and power to walk with Him every day. “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation… We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors…” (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). And “He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6). The Gospel declares that Jesus Christ did everything necessary for our salvation through His death, burial, and resurrection. We are not saved by our works, religious efforts, or ability to stay faithful. Jesus did what we could never do. Through His obedience unto death, God condemned sin in the flesh and fulfilled the righteous requirement of the Law on our behalf (Romans 8:3-4). At the Cross, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13), forgave all our trespasses (Colossians 2:13-14), and through His blood obtained eternal redemption for God’s children (Hebrews 9:12). Jesus destroyed the one who had the power of death and delivered those who were held in bondage through fear (Hebrews 2:14-15). We were crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20), buried with Him, and raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4-6). God made us alive together with Christ and seated us with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:4-6). The Spirit of Christ now lives in us (Romans 8:9-11), writing God’s laws upon our hearts (Hebrews 8:10), empowering us to live by His life instead of our own strength. Jesus finished the work, and now we rest in His victory, righteousness, and eternal life. If you have never believed the Gospel, today is the day to trust in Jesus Christ.
