A bug sat in Zcash's shielded circuit for 4 years. It could have silently minted unlimited counterfeit ZEC, with zero trace. So we asked the obvious question: did anyone actually do it? "Should we just run cardano-db-sync?" Every Cardano engineer asks this when their team proposes Bitquery. Here is the honest answer we give them. The case FOR db-sync is real. Sub-50ms latency on private queries. Full control over the Postgres schema. The ability to run analytical queries Bitquery does not expose. The case AGAINST is also real. Around 600 GB of disk and growing. Multi-day initial sync from genesis. Schema migrations on every Cardano protocol upgrade. HA, monitoring, backup, and on-call all sit with your team. The decision usually comes down to one question. What does your team actually use the data for? If the workload is balances, deposit detection, withdrawal reconciliation, and per-user reward statements (the four workloads every custodial Cardano product needs), Bitquery covers all four with cached reads that cost zero points on repeat polls. You ship in a weekend. The two engineers you would have hired to operate the node fleet build the product instead. If the workload is high-frequency private analytics or a custom indexed schema your product depends on, db-sync wins. Run it. Most teams who ask us this question land in the first bucket. They just have not priced the second-team-for-infra cost yet. Three pieces that show the actual queries and architecture, each with a Bitquery vs db-sync section sized to the specific workload: โ†’ Polling Cardano stake and reward balances at scale bitquery.io/blog/polling-carโ€ฆ โ†’ How to detect Cardano deposits without running a full node bitquery.io/blog/how-to-deteโ€ฆ โ†’ Tracking per-user ADA staking rewards for tax and accounting bitquery.io/blog/tracking-peโ€ฆ If you are the engineer being asked this question this week, these are the three pieces to send back to your CTO.

An exchange backend polled 8000 Cardano stake addresses every day for two months. ~480,000 queries total. Zero points consumed. Caching makes the difference. The cache sits on the read path itself. Query the same (address, height) twice inside the cache window. The second read is free. This changes the economics for custodial staking products. You pay for unique work. Chain state changes are the unit of cost. Polling 8000 stake keys hourly costs the same as polling them once a day if the chain state hasn't moved. Full sizing example and a benchmark against db-sync are in the blog. ๐Ÿ‘‰ bitquery.io/blog/polling-carโ€ฆ If you run a Cardano staking product and your cost scales with poll frequency, you have an easy save here.

Bitcoin moved to Base. ๐Ÿ“Š DEX Bitcoin volume by chain, last 7 days: 1. Base โ€” $18.95B (58.8%) 2. Ethereum โ€” $4.82B (15.0%) 3. BSC โ€” $2.88B (8.9%) 4. Arbitrum โ€” $2.73B (8.5%) 5. The structural reason: $cbBTC ate $WBTC. - cbBTC global 7d volume: $22.45B - WBTC global 7d volume: $6.81B - Ratio: 3.3ร— cbBTC didn't exist 20 months ago. WBTC owned wrapped Bitcoin for 5 years. The reign is over. Methodology note: 36 different tokens on Solana use "BTC" as their symbol, including a memecoin called "Bitcoin" trading at $2,100.
