BlackGEM telescope array @ESO La Silla for gravitational wave counterparts. Run by @Radboud_uni Astrophysics (@RUastro), NOVA & KU Leuven. Contact: @paulgroot
Dear Minister Dijkgraaf @RHDijkgraaf We are so very proud at that you showed the @ESO telescopes #VLT in Paranal and #ELT in Armazones as well as @BlackGEM_Array in La Silla to explain the importance of astronomy for society! Glad that your visit was so helpful!

A first in Dutch parliamentary history. A minister bringing a photo to his budget meeting. And the photo is of....BlackGEM. @AstronomieNL@RUastro@IvS_KULeuven@MinOCW
Even now they are officially opened, work continues of course. The team has decreased the read-noise in the images by a factor of almost 2 by better shielding of power cables. This requires 'diving' into the telescopes...
The @BlackGEM_Array@ESO in Chili is officieel geopend 🔭BlackGEM bestaat uit drie optische telescopen die lichtflitsen gaan zoeken van samensmeltende zwarte gaten en neutronensterren
The @BlackGEM_Array was officially opened yesterday! Let's raise a glass to this amazing Dutch-Flemish collaboration that will hunt for gravitational wave sources from @ESO's La Silla observatory 🍾🔭💫 @leuvenresearch@RUastro.
With immense sadness we have to report that the BlackGEM telescopes have collapsed, only two days after the inauguration by @RHDijkgraaf, @AstronomieNL, @RUastro, @IvS_KULeuven
...but they were tasty!!
2/ Welcomed by ESO’s Director General Xavier Barcons, Minister Dijkgraaf toured our observing sites while visiting Chile for the inauguration of the Dutch-Belgian telescopes @BlackGEM_Array , hosted at ESO's #LaSilla Observatory.

1/ Ready to lend a hand to astronomers in uncovering new #BlackHoles? 🌌
Join the Black Hole Finder project & you'll have the chance to spot newly-born black holes in photos of the night sky taken by the BlackGEM telescopes, located at our #LaSilla Observatory in Chile!
The incredible @stevenbloemen sped up our mount by a factor of three. We will now be zipping across the sky. Also thanks to Peter Dolron at @RUastro and the @radboudscience TechnoCenter.
