For persons who are blind or have vision loss, a white cane is a useful aid for navigation and identification. During White Cane Week, learn about the different types of canes. 👇
ALT More than a cane
Different types, different purposes
ALT Support Cane
Provides physical stability, like a walker. Its white colour signals that the user has vision loss.
ALT Mobility Cane
Thicker, stronger and longer than an identification cane. It helps users stay in contact with the ground by relaying surface texture and detecting obstacles ahead. The lower section is often red for increased visibility.
ALT Identification Cane
Thin, straight cane to signal sight loss or to navigate independently by relaying visual details like doorways or stairs.
