Stop using the word rebellion to define Métis resistance to the Canadian invasion of Métis and First Nation homelands. This colonial narrative is damaging and misleading. As a national museum you have to know that terms and words matter in teaching historical events.
Riel led two rebellions against the government of John A. Macdonald, fighting to defend the rights and culture of the Métis people. He was arrested after the second rebellion following the Battle of Batoche, was imprisoned in Regina and then hung for treason on November 16, 1885
