Great to join the @RoyalSocietyVic Emerging Scientists Network (ESN) for their inaugural Meet and Greet with STEM Industries and Employers.
With a friendly welcome from RSV President @robgell, the ESN hosted speakers from @CSIRO, Alluvium Group, @illumina and @RaygenResources.
Finally, a huge thanks to the students leading the ESN: Bronte Holt, Brendan Cohen, Leloba Jefferis and Alexander Mahoney. This is a wonderful initiative which speaks to the unique circumstances of university students at the moment.
After having spent half of my undergraduate degree online during COVID lockdowns (2 of 4 years!), it was fantastic to have another opportunity to connect with like-minded students. I look forward to seeing what comes next!

There’s no beating around the bush – the result hurts.
Our number one priority must be looking out for each other.
Let's be gentle on ourselves & others.
We’re mob. We’ve been here for more than 60,000 years & we’re not going anywhere.
We are strong, resilient & deadly.
I feel a deep sense of shame and grief tonight with millions of other Australians who voted #YES today. Imagine what First Nations People are feeling now. We have failed them today. We must redouble our efforts for Voice, Treaty & Truth.

What an exceptional first day we've had at the Peter Mac Research Retreat today - there have been speeches, panels, round-table networking and even "speed dating" where our people got to ask questions to any other department in the research division. Bring on day two tomorrow!
My supervisor Dr @SuadMAbdirahman presented a poster on developing patient-derived #OvarianCancer organoid and xenograft models (which I’ve had the amazing chance to learn about and help with). With these, we hope to help open the door to #PersonalisedMedicine.
Huge thanks to the organising committee, and A/Prof @kylie_gorringe who invited me to stay in the Gorringe Lab as a research assistant. It’s been incredibly valuable to see real-life research beyond my university studies!
Eye-opening insights and inspiration from the International Day of Women and Girls in Science panel hosted by @VicParliament today. There was fantastic discussion from change-makers regarding possible improvements to current policy around STEM.

Leading the panel was @natashamitchell, @ABCscience journalist and presenter. While guiding interesting conversation, she added her own reflections, including that studying science gave her the toolset to face a range of challenges (including interviewing the Dalai Lama!).
Thank you to the wonderful Auslan translators who helped to increase accessibility to the event online and once again to the panellists for terrific discussion.
Over to you to help enact the change spoken about today parliamentarians!
