Limitations in art are what push artists to be creative. Boring, ultra-textured realism is a byproduct of having too many choices for artists who don't understand this.

Ocarina of Time was never supposed to be a realistic-looking game. Even ignoring the official art, the in-game characters are vibrant, stylised, and look more like anime characters than realistic humans.
