Brilliant post!
Personne n'a planifié.

Why does @DollarCars and @thriftycars in Orlando have got only one person serving 30 customers waiting in line for the last hour and half???

Totally agree, as with the Learning Management Systems - whoever controls them controls everything that is built on or around them.

Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar just diagnosed exactly why Europe is losing the AI race. The answer isn’t money. Sankar: “Europe is kind of the worst of both worlds. They neither spend a lot of money nor move quickly.” Not one failure. Both failures simultaneously. No spending and no speed. The two things that determine who wins the AI era. Europe is losing on both. Sankar: “You could spend half as much money and go 4 times faster, and you’d probably win.” The race isn’t about outspending America. It’s about outpacing it. A smaller budget with faster execution beats a massive budget moving slowly every time. Europe isn’t doing either. While the US deploys billion dollar compute clusters and China builds national AI infrastructure at state scale, Europe is debating compliance frameworks and optimizing for safety over velocity. Regulating the revolution while their competitors are building it. Sankar: “Clarity only seems to come when the barrel of the gun is in your face.” He points to Ukraine. Before the invasion, slow and bureaucratic. The moment the threat became existential, they became some of the fastest military innovators on earth. Urgency that peacetime never produces arrived overnight because it had to. Europe is watching that lesson from a comfortable distance and drawing the wrong conclusions. The gun in this race isn’t a military invasion. It’s AGI. It’s foundational infrastructure. It’s the moment when the models, the chips, and the data centers are owned by someone else and every European government and company runs on foreign intelligence they cannot control, cannot audit, and cannot replace. Ownership at the foundation level isn’t negotiable. Whoever controls the models controls everything built on them. Permanently. Europe debated. Competitors built. By the time that barrel is visible, the infrastructure will already be built. The winners of this decade won’t wait for the crisis to start moving. They already are.

Since 2008, UK productivity has flatlined. Lord Jim Knight says it’s an education problem. Here’s why: “The school systems work pretty well for those going to academic universities. But they don’t work very well for anybody else.” That’s roughly a third of young people — failed by a system designed for someone else. Many end up not in education or employment. Some on welfare. Some in the criminal justice system. All costing more than they contribute. Not because they lack potential — because no one built a path for them. “One side is obsessed by qualification outcomes. The other is obsessed by job outcomes. And the two don’t necessarily meet.” Education and employment are speaking different languages. And young people are caught in the middle. Jim’s question: what if schools stopped filtering for universities and started preparing everyone for a productive life? Full conversation: bridgelt.com/podcast

France is developing Viso, a 100% French videoconferencing solution developed by the Direction Interministérielle du Numérique (DINUM), the French government’s interministerial digital directorate, as an alternative to US tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet. There will be some limitations: 1. Only operates between 10am and 5pm. 2. It will take a two-hour break for lunch every day between 12:30 and 14:30. 3. It cannot be used for more than 35 hours a week. 4. Closed all of August 5. It retires on 85% pay after three years. 6. L'utilisation du français sera obligatoire. Can’t wait to show them Yanks what’s what.

Stanford just made a $200,000 AI degree free. No application. No tuition. No “elite access”. Stanford released its actual AI/ML curriculum on YouTube. Not a PR-friendly intro. Not “AI for the public”. This is the real thing. The same lectures shaping people working on frontier models. What just became public: Deep Learning (CS230) → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… Transformers & LLMs (CME295) → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… Language Models from Scratch (CS336) → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… ML from Human Feedback (CS329H) → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… Computer Vision (CS231N) → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… LLM Evaluation & Scaling → youtube.com/playlist?list=PL… The uncomfortable truth: The degree isn’t the scarce asset anymore. Execution speed is. Top schools know this. That’s why they’re publishing the playbook. 👉 Bookmark this. Comment the first lecture you’ll actually watch.

Charlie: "I'm just flesh and bone, but more importantly, I'm a soul, and that soul is accountable to one being." "I've had an unbelievably blessed life... So praise God. I've been all across the world. I've met with world leaders." "I've flown Air Force One, got to know a president. I have an amazing family, the podcast Turning Point USA... And so you experienced that, and you're like, 'What actually matters?'"
