Another update on the severe winter weather:
Tragically, a death has been reported in Leflore County. This brings the total to four statewide. Please keep the family in your prayers.
Counties continue to conduct damage assessments.
@MSEMA has received reports of 92 homes, 3 businesses, and 7 farms damaged statewide. Those numbers are expected to rise as damage assessments continue over the coming days.
Power restoration efforts continue with approximately 143,700 outages reported statewide.
@MississippiDOT continues to clear roads. MEMA continues to fill requests from 37 different counties for generators, tarps, MREs, bottled water, cots, blankets, and fuel.
@fema is delivering 11 truckloads of supplies to Mississippi and also deploying a 90-person chainsaw team to North Mississippi.
The American Red Cross is providing shelter support. Pinelake Church and Convoy of Hope are assisting with supplies in warming shelters. Lowe’s filled a request for shovels and brooms. The Mississippi Trucking Association assisted in finding a company with box trucks to assist with moving supplies. For citizens who want to help, the
@MSDeptofAg is collecting bottled water, nonperishable food items, can openers, baby diapers and formula, propane cook stoves and propane bottles, and basic essential paper products to be delivered to North Mississippi. Donations can be dropped off at the Old Armory at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds this week, January 27-30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MEMA is coordinating with MDAC to ensure the assistance reaches those in need.
Please stay home, stay off the roads, and stay warm. Mississippians who need to warm up may seek shelter at a county or city-run warming center in their area. A list of those centers can be found here:

Travel remains dangerous in many areas. As of 8:30 a.m., ice is still reported on roads and bridges in 37 counties. Please stay off of the roads if possible and only travel in areas affected by winter weather if absolutely necessary. For more information on road conditions, visit:
