⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT FOR THE MIDWEST TODAY (JUNE 13) ⚠️
If you are across the Plains or Midwest today, you need to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings!
We have a significant setup for severe thunderstorms rolling through the region.
Here is what we are looking at based on the latest data from The Weather Channel:
• Severe Thunderstorm Risk: Severe weather is "Likely" across a massive portion of the region, stretching from Wichita up through Kansas City and over to St. Louis, with possible storms extending even further out.
• Damaging Hail Threat: There is a very high threat of damaging hail today. A massive swath of the region—including Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, and Des Moines—could see hail 2" in diameter or greater.
• Tornado Potential (TOR:CON): The Weather Channel has issued a TOR:CON value of 4 for the area centering around Kansas City, Joplin, and Emporia, meaning there is a 40% chance of a tornado hitting within 50 miles of any location in that zone today.
⚽ ATTENTION FIFA WORLD CUP FAN FESTIVAL ATTENDEES IN KANSAS CITY! ⚽
For everyone heading downtown to the grounds of the National WWI Museum and Memorial for Kansas City’s Official FIFA Fan Festival™, please use extreme caution.
Because this is a completely outdoor event, you are highly vulnerable to sudden weather changes. Large hail, severe lightning, and high winds can develop rapidly.
Your Game Plan for Today:
1️⃣ Know Before You Go: Keep a close eye on live radar throughout the day.
2️⃣ Identify Shelter: Know exactly where you will go if severe weather hits. Open fields and outdoor tents are NOT safe from 2-inch hail or dangerous winds.
3️⃣ Set Up Alerts: Make sure your phone's emergency alerts are turned ON, and follow local updates from
@FWC26KansasCity and the
@FIFAWorldCup for any event delay or evacuation announcements.
Enjoy the soccer festivities, but remember: no match is more important than your safety. Stay safe, stay weather aware, and look out for one another out there!
