Remember: btw 2020 and Jan 2023, we (1) froze evictions, (2) added 7k shelter beds, and (3) saw a tragic uptick in street mortality. All put pressure on the count to *fall*. That it rose *at all*–to say nothing of 9%–reveals an emergency even deeper than what we see outside.

Heard @CountyofLA’s top #homeless exec report on mental health & addiction rehab beds: current supply, in the pipeline & costs. This chart shows all bed types, it's a complicated system. Takeaways: 1) We have about 44,700 beds & 13K in development; 2) We need more; 3) We need to raise #federal reimbursement formulas so they cover our true costs. I’m monitoring this topic closely b/c these beds are critical to our fight against #homelessness. These beds change lives.
