Philippine Red Cross is on highest alert following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Maasim, Sarangani, southern Philippines. They are deploying volunteers, ambulances, emergency teams, food trucks, and water tankers to support affected communities, and issuing advisories to the public. @IFRC is helping monitor the situation alongside @PhilRedCross with communities impacted.

“Epidemics start and end in communities. What is urgently required is scaling up the work at the community level and this is what the DRC Red Cross and the @IFRC are doing.” Speaking to @BBCNews from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dr Petra Khoury @petra_khoury, Global Health Director at the IFRC, warned that the outbreak remains out of control and called for urgent investment in locally led response. She highlighted the critical role of DRC Red Cross @Croix_Rouge_RDC volunteers, who are engaging communities door to door, sharing trusted health information, and helping counter misinformation in an extremely challenging environment. As Dr Khoury underlined, outbreak response cannot rely on cycles of panic. Long-term investment in community preparedness and resilient health systems is essential to prevent crises from escalating.

Spot the signs! ⚠️ With the warmer temperatures continuing into this week, it's important to know the symptoms and what to do if you're affected by heat exhaustion or heat stroke. 🌡️ Save this and share with those who may need it. @metoffice

Many of us will want to enjoy the sunshine, but it's important to protect our skin from the harmful UV rays. Here's some advice to stay safe👇
Protect yourself from UV: 1) Try to stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm. 2) Cover up with suitable clothing wraparound sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat. 3) Apply at least SPF 30 sunscreen with 4* UVA protection. 4) Take extra care with children.

When it comes to applying sunscreen, more and more often is better. The NHS advises that sunscreen needs to be reapplied liberally and frequently (every 2 hours) and straight after you have been in water, even if it's "water resistant", and after towel drying, sweating or when it may have rubbed off.

Deeply saddened by the loss of three dedicated volunteers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo Red Cross in Ituri Province, who are believed to have contracted the Ebola virus on duty, while carrying out dead body management activities on 27 March as part of a humanitarian mission unrelated to Ebola. At the time of the intervention, the community was not aware of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, and the outbreak had not yet been identified. They are among the first known victims of the outbreak. On behalf of the @IFRC, I extend my heartfelt condolences to their families, loved ones, fellow volunteers and colleagues. We stand in solidarity with the DRC Red Cross during this painful time. The IFRC, together with the DRC Red Cross and the ICRC, remains committed to supporting affected communities and strengthening the Ebola response. Our statement. 👇

Last week, we hosted @BritishRedCross CEO Béatrice Butsana-Sita and @WWF_UK CEO Tanya Steele in Kwale to see some of the community-led climate resilience initiatives supported through our partnership. From youth groups turning coconut husks into potting bags for tree seedlings, to mangrove and coral reef restoration along the coast, communities are driving real climate solutions on the ground. In Lamu, Kenya Red Cross and @WWF_Kenya are also working with communities to conserve 900 hectares of coastal ecosystems, thanks to funds raised by players of @PostcodeLottery.
