Today is #WorldBloodDonorDay. This year’s theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” places humanity at the heart of every blood donation. Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Across the @IFRC network, around one quarter of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are responsible for blood service delivery in their national blood programmes. Thank you for your life-saving work.

As I leave Afghanistan today, I carry the weight of what I witnessed: families uprooted, livelihoods collapsing, climate shocks hitting harder each year, and women and children bearing the heaviest burden. But I also saw hope — in the courage of Afghan Red Crescent volunteers and IFRC teams who show up every day for the communities— and that’s exactly where we must focus our efforts. Stronger health systems, safer shelters, and real support for people living in vulnerable settings can’t wait. The @IFRC Network is ready to do more, but we need lasting global solidarity. Afghanistan’s people deserve action at scale - before hardship gets even worse.

One life lost is too many. International humanitarian law is clear. Humanitarian personnel, facilities and assets must be respected and protected. Our emblems are symbols of protection. Attacks on humanitarian personnel are unacceptable, and they must not be allowed to become normalised. The @IFRC calls upon the international community to take concrete steps to respect and protect humanitarian personnel and ensure their safety. #ProtectHumanity

Ebola continues to threaten lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where dozens of people have died and hundreds more have been infected. Together with local communities, @IFRC and Red Cross teams are helping prevent the spread of Ebola by strengthening surveillance, supporting infection prevention and control measures, raising awareness of risks, and ensuring safe and dignified burials. We are grateful for the dedication of all humanitarian workers serving in challenging conditions to protect lives and support communities. ⛑️ 📽️ @CroixRouge_CH
