During my time in the NFL, I saw many poor people become rich overnight. However, I quickly learned. You don't overcome poverty by leaving the neighborhood. That's not enough. Earlier on, a coach shared some wisdom: "I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me." Most people let their circumstances shape them or their neighborhood define their possibilities. I watched teammates sign multi-million dollar contracts and immediately move to the biggest houses in the richest neighborhoods. Thought they'd escaped poverty or, even, physical distance meant mental freedom. Within years, most were broke. They brought poverty thinking to wealthy neighborhoods. Upgraded their location but not their habits. Real wealth isn't about what zip code you live in. It's about what systems you build and legacy you create. When you become a product of your environment, you stay small. When your environment becomes a product of you, you multiply. This is what generational wealth building actually looks like. Not just escaping your neighborhood, but transforming it so completely that future generations inherit something better. You don't run from poverty. You eliminate it. And if you’re lucky, you become the force which elevates your environment.
