This big house was given to us for the business trip last week, and by the end of the week it signified the reality of this Dunya. Despite the facilities in it, along with the snacks and entertainment items present, many of my colleagues didn’t care about keeping the house clean, throw the trash out in time, or wash the dishes on time. Because every one of us thought, we’re only here for a week so it’s not worth spending so much time in its maintenance. Many of the facilities such as the BBQ grill outside, or some board games were not even utilized in our free time because we knew we have better facilities in our own house back home. Yet we take this Dunya to be the permanent residence, when Allah said, بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا But you prefer the life of this world, وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ even though the Hereafter is far better and more lasting. When I returned back from my business trip yesterday - as I pulled up into my neighborhood, my mother who was watering the grass and plants outside, had a wide smile with giggles like she won the biggest award on this planet when she saw my car. She started saying my nickname repeatedly and singing “My son has returned home” out of joy. She did all of this before I even entered the driveway and stepped out of the car. It’s always amazing to see how mothers get excited to see their children after the smallest separation, let alone the longer ones. This should remind one to make Du’a for the reunion of the children taken from some sisters in the camp of Roj, sister Aafia Siddiqui and all the mothers separated from their children due to imprisonment or situations where they can’t meet with their kids anytime soon.

It was her first time, so forget about how close it was to the actual Kabuli Pulao; that’s irrelevant. What’s relevant is the fact she attempted it in the first place just to make me happy.
