Obsessed with the combination of knowledge and lack of knowledge that is required for someone to come up with this idea

I love everything about this open virtual event. This is a great thing to share with anyone who is (or might be!) a prospective (bio)statistics PhD student!

Just a friendly reminder, join us for a virtual conversation and Q&A with current Statistics Ph.D. students from the Departments of Statistics at UW, UC Berkeley, and UMich Ann Arbor on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 5:00 PM (PST). See details here: bit.ly/3m5zjvb

The pervasive false dichotomy between those who do science and those who do DEI work. These things are complementary! We can do both, and good researchers *should* do both. It's not a zero-sum game.
Yes I do this work AND I do MOST of it through math research. Why not mention my contributions to algebraic combinatorics since I’ve published 50 articles?!

Note to self: when asking students who are new to coding to "print" something, make sure to clarify that I don't mean from a physical printer onto (many) sheets of paper

Listening to a podcast from April 2020, someone mentioned how "this stay at home thing is super uncertain" and "it could even last another month" 😭😭😭

My first day at work at Macalester, and I was just asked if I'm a sophomore. I'm used to being asked if I'm a student and all, but that just felt oddly specific? Do I look 19 years old, specifically?

Book idea: "I Can't Touch My Toes But..." It's a side-by-side picture/coffee table book with enthusiastically bad Twitter takes about the greatest gymnast of all time on one side and photos of Simone celebrating her achievements on the other

Some incredible work coming out of @UWStat led by my friend and colleague @NicholasJIrons We’ve all seen the consequences of shoddy statistics during the pandemic (remember cubic regression? 😷) - a must-read for anyone interested in careful and proper COVID statistical analysis
Thanks for sharing our work @EricTopol! @AdrianRaftery1 and I use the results of random sample COVID testing in Indiana and Ohio to de-bias the widely available data (cases, tests, deaths) and estimate the true number of COVID infections over time in the US. 1/3

I recognize the irony of this tweet, but I would be happy to never hear or read another word about the billionaire space race.

Very excited for this! Join @peteragao, @sarah_teichman, and I this Thursday at #USCOTS21 as we facilitate “Data Ethics: Why, Where and How?”, an interactive and open discussion about incorporating data ethics into undergraduate statistics curricula.

#USCOTS21 is one of the rare virtual statistics conferences with a genuinely reasonable registration fee of only $25! If that fee is a burden, fee waivers are available through this exemplarily simple and unobscured waiver form: causeweb.org/cause/uscots/us…

“Our words as educators can either create barriers or break barriers.” - Prince Afriyie This quote stuck out to me, but its just one of so many great moments from the “Expanding Horizons and Fostering Diversity” keynote panel at #USCOTS21 👏👏👏

Teaching over Zoom always requires a little bit of set up. Today's set up includes soaking a cloth in water to keep myself cool down during class. Time for Seattle to admit it needs air conditioning!
