🤖 x402 Goes Live on Injective: AI Agents Can Now Pay for Services Autonomously
@Injective has integrated x402, an open payment standard originally developed by Coinbase and now live on its mainnet.
The protocol enables artificial intelligence agents to pay for API calls in real time without accounts, subscriptions, or any human intervention, opening the door to a new generation of autonomous digital services.
How x402 Works
The system leverages the long-reserved HTTP 402 status code (“Payment Required”) to create a seamless payment flow:
• A client requests access to an endpoint.
• The server responds with a price.
• The client signs a USDC payment without broadcasting it.
• A facilitator processes and verifies the payment on-chain.
• The server instantly delivers the requested data.
The entire process occurs within a single HTTP exchange, eliminating friction and reducing operational complexity.
Injective was selected for the implementation because of its single-block settlement, deterministic finality, and latency of approximately 650 milliseconds, allowing agents to reliably complete payments before making their next decision.
Why It Matters
For developers, integration is straightforward. A simple middleware implementation on an Express server can protect routes using x402.
No shared API keys, quotas, subscriptions, or prior registration are required. The official x402 repository and documentation already include working examples and live demos for testing.
The launch represents a significant step toward truly autonomous AI agents capable of interacting with online services, paying for resources, and operating independently through blockchain infrastructure.
In Summary
Injective has integrated x402, enabling AI agents to pay for API services autonomously and in real time using USDC.
Built around the HTTP 402 payment standard, the protocol combines fast settlement, seamless user experience, and blockchain verification. The launch marks an important milestone in the convergence of artificial intelligence and decentralized financial infrastructure.
