Today is the 82nd anniversary of D-Day – the Allied landings in Normandy, which significantly hastened the countdown to the Nazis' collapse in World War II. It is one of the most important moments of unity among the defenders of life in human history, and it was less than a year until the peoples’ aspiration for freedom and the hope of peace prevailed in May 1945. It happened then. We are working to make it happen again today. And although yesterday in Petersburg another cynical order to continue killing was issued for the army trying to destroy our freedom, history has seen this before. The Nazis also had their own hopes after D-Day. But freedom still wins. And even in the darkest circumstances, people find ways to come together to protect life. I thank all those who are now helping to protect the values that prevailed in World War II. I thank everyone who is defending life. Glory to Ukraine!

About to play Bretwalda, by @PHALANX_LTD, with my game design class. I chose this game to show them: -How historical artwork can inspire graphic design - the whole game has the aesthetic of the Book of Kells. -Multi-player 4X strategy with very limited number of units and severe logistical constraints - its Dark Ages Britain and your armies can easily starve in the winter if you don't plan ahead. -Secret objectives and a wide variety of strategies to pursue. Not a simple "fighting only" wargame. -Excellent user interface for the player. Everything you can do is clearly laid out in front of you on your faction sheet and on the player aid. -Mild asymmetry but enough to notice the differences. Each of the 4 factions has a special rule and their rulers have a special rule too. Nowhere near ROOT in terms of complexity but you still have a bit of character for your faction. Let's see how it goes...

I can’t think of a better way to end Memorial Day than Major Dick Winters holding the American flag. 🇺🇸

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
