Worldwide, it is estimated that 132 million more people could be pushed into extreme poverty by 2030 because of the devastating impact of climate change. We therefore believe that urgent action on the climate crisis is necessary. If we are to succeed, we must follow the science. We are pleased that the UK Government has followed the scientific advice and that of the Climate Change Committee for this carbon budget. We must do all we can to bring positive change. We urge a strong implementation of this budget and previous ones, so that we can play our part in keeping below the dangerous temperature rises which scientists warn us of, and which we already see around the world mainly affecting those who have done least to cause this crisis. Maintaining a strong trajectory to clean power will protect poor communities suffering from spikes in fossil fuel costs."
