The GT Energy community celebrated the winter holidays at a gathering hosted by @CabreraAngel and featuring our favorite mascot, Buzz. Energy faculty members Lew Lefton, Shannon Yee, and SEI DOp Christine Conwell enjoyed the afternoon cheer.
SEI releases updates to the hugely successful Energy 101 mooc in Mini-MOOC format! These bite-size videos offer high level look at energy systems. Perfect for exploring energy concepts without getting caught in the weeds. Please help us spread the word:

Spoke with @mtosterholm about challenges with school reopenings. We agree-tough times and neither of us would send our kids back to schools unvaccinated without guarantees of ventilation, filtration, and high quality masks. W/out reassurance, I would wait 3 months for vaccines.
Afternoon session of Origins of Biological Macromolecules is kicking off with @DrJayTweets and followed up by @ChemBarkPaul@GregSpringsteen @facundofGT, Chris Keating, Luke Leman and Aiko Guzman! Join us at #ACSSpring2021!!
Spreading the love today in our special virtual writing group. Love you @MES_K1ELACoach for the extra love you give these kiddos. You are awesome!! @MabletonES
So incredibly thankful for teachers that do so much extra to include the virtual kiddos in the fun! Candy math was a huge hit! Quarantined valentines will be too! @Mableton_ACED @MabletonDLI@MabletonES#LoveOurTeachers
PNAS paper showing the # of exhaled aerosols by individuals spans 3 orders of magnitude. The small fraction who release more virus aerosols could be superspreaders. Pareto principle.
Exhaled aerosol increases with COVID-19 infection, age, and obesity pnas.org/content/118/8/e2021…
Ten years. Hundreds of collaborations. Many (many) hours of intense meetings. Thousands of experiments repeated. Countless friendships made. A scientific legacy just beginning to be realized. Congrats team on a job well done! @ibbgatech@GTSciences@GT_CHEM@NSF@NASAAstrobio

For my @BungerKCBSRadio interview, here is the main source of info I used about kids being transmitters of COVID-19 to households when schools are open. It is such a challenging problem with lots of misinfo out there. @DrZoeHyde and @Dr2NisreenAlwan also have excellent threads.
So incredibly proud of this team! Amazing scientific discoveries, incredible programmatic developments and forever friendships and collaborations! #TeamScience#winning#bestjob#origins
It spreads through respiratory droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols, produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks, or breathes. These particles can be inhaled into the nose, mouth, airways, and lungs and cause infection.

Exactly the problem...and if you are in a room with someone but further than 6 ft, you are not considered in close contact/exposed (and not told to be tested). This is going to continue to lead to further spread-the only way it can be fixed is direct (1/2)
Don't miss this recent work by Dr. Frenkel-Pinter and Prof. Williams, which illustrated interactions between proto-proteins and RNA! 💪
