Price change for PS4/Steam versions of “FIGHTING EX LAYER”
#FEXL and about 3.0.
Simply put, to commemorate our 30th anniversary, we wanted first and foremost to thank our fans.
So, when we thought about what ARIKA could do on its own, our first idea was to make “FIGHTING EX LAYER” free.
Yes—of course it was Nishitani-san who floated such a bold idea.
Making it free isn’t impossible, but there are many hurdles. Naturally, even if it’s free, platform holders would still be providing payment systems (used even for free items) and servers, which means they’d be working for free—so it becomes something that requires a lot of “consultation.”
When we looked for the next best thing to free, we found ¥22 in Japanese yen. However, that leads to strange outcomes worldwide, so we ultimately settled on US$0.99.
This does mean items like color packs end up costing more than the base game, but we couldn’t change those prices because of how they relate to the base-game price revision.
As a side note, the Nintendo Switch “Another Dash” version has a free download edition with feature limits thanks to Nintendo’s kind cooperation, so it’s not something ARIKA can do on its own, and as the content is effectively a different title, we didn’t consider it subject to the price revision. It’s already surpassed 2 million downloads, anyway.
As for 3.0, we’re currently considering a format where only those who’ve purchased the Steam version of the base game can try it via beta codes. Please give us a little more time. As for the PS4 version, please understand we can’t release it that way on our own—and it originally only ran on PS5.
