Over the last year and a half?? Meaning this started well within the Turner administration?? It's mind boggling how much this city wants to leap frog backwards.
Sidewalk ordinance just appeared on letâs talk houston, Houston public workâs community discussion website. Thereâs an explanation this is about expanding exemptions. Thereâs also a series of public in person and virtual meetings scheduled: letstalkhouston.org/sidewalkâŠ
Item 43 on the CNL Agenda proposes changes to our sidewalk ordinance. While I support improving the ordinance, this proposal was crafted w/out sufficient input from residents or community & it eliminates the one tool we have to build & improve sidewalks in Hou. Iâll be voting NO because our communities deserve better solutions & a more inclusive process.
Awhile ago the city gave developers permission to pay a fee instead of building sidewalks. Now the city is wanting to go away with the rule entirely, no fee, no sidewalk. @_janetmiranda đ€Ź
The staff and Planning Commission celebrated Jennifer Ostlind who is retiring after 32 years of service to the City. We will miss her depth of knowledge, versatility as a planner, agility as a leader, patience, kindness and humor as a mentor, colleague and friend!
Mayor Whitmireâs 100th Day
Words:
âWeâre listening to Houstonians like never before. The transparency across city government is being restored.â
Policy:
âCommission, board, & committee meetings will be held in person ONLY. [Virtual] participation will NO LONGER be an option.â
News: Mayor @whitmire_john appoints Vonn Tran, a longtime commercial real estate manager, as the city's planning director pending approval from City Council on July 27.
Interim planning director Jennifer Ostlind will retire from the city effective July 26
In spite of abysmally low transit funding per capita, @METROHouston has seen ridership rise above pre-pandemic levels.
The people of Houston are uniquely blessed with great transit planning & decisions, interrupted by terrible mistakes like this proposed mistake.
Today's decision by @METROHouston to not move forward with the University BRT line is unacceptable.
Make your voice heard and let your officials know that the University Corridor BRT must move forward.

Developers...have seen, basically, that walkability sells. And with Whitmire seemingly reversing the tide on Houston's newly progressive transportation policy, those developers have started to wonder just what it is he's doing and why he's doing it."

A design with a 2â setback development with little visibility triangle at the intersection. The cherry on top, was the allowance of small lots that are affordable and walkable with lots less than 1,200-1300 sqf.
