I knew this anyway but having spent time in LA these past days including the very nice Beverly Hills and Hollywood Hills, I understand WHY people like Billie Eilish and in the UK Matt Allwright are so dumbfounded about ordinary people objecting to illegal immigration.
They live in parallel universes to most of us. They live in the most beautiful, idyllic neighbourhoods. The sun shines daily, they are fit, healthy, live behind gated communities where no plebs can afford to come close. The illegal migrants they know wash their £100k cars and clean their toilets.
They're not the ones scrambling around for work, seeing their wages undercut, their tax bills soar, the ones suffering violent crime or seeing their children murdered and raped by third worlders. Their children are safe in private schools, at sports clubs, or walking around the plush green lawns of Hollywood. They're not the ones on housing waiting lists or risking their safety every time they use public transport.
I don't blame them for holding their virtue-signalling views. They know no better. They must think everyone else lives in the same comfort as they do. They are literally blinded by the consequences of uncontrolled mass illegal immigration - and for the most part even benefit from it with low-paid skivvies running around for them.
They also think they, themselves, are inherently good people. And good people are kind, hospitable, welcoming - something that by default extends to illegal migrants because at the end of the day we're all human.
There's a phrase for this method of thinking.
Suicidal empathy.
