There should not be one rule for the Scottish Parliament regarding women only spaces and another for everyone else, the law is the law. Let’s use our time as MSPs on changing Scotland for the better, not making points about internal Parliamentary issues.

If you read the comments in response to anyone calling for calm you will see the overt racism that has been legitimised in recent months in Scotland. Hopefully it will stop some thinking that this is just a problem for England and Scotland is somehow immune to these views.

The family of the victim of the Belfast knife attack, Stephen Ogilvie call for calm after riots erupt in the city. In a statement issued via their MLA, they say: “We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one. This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover. “We are aware of the tensions and talk of protests following this incident. We want to make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome, and peaceful protest is the only way forward. "We have many migrants who make a deeply valuable contribution to our country, including in our healthcare system and hospitality sector, and we depend on them to make our country work. We do not want this terrible tragedy to be used to divide people or fuel hostility.”

No one in Scotland should live in fear due to the colour of their skin of their religious belief. The displays of hate witnessed in the city are the antithesis of the compassionate and welcoming spirit of Glasgow, and will not be tolerated.

The attack in Belfast this week was unacceptable, and the law will do its job in holding those responsible to account. Across Scotland, everyone deserves to feel safe and racism or disorder should never be tolerated. Stoking division between communities is not the answer.

The scenes across Scotland, including our very own Ayr, are only going to make matters worse. The far right exploit these events to cause more trouble and they will keep ramping up until they create unfixable divisions. In Belfast yesterday we saw where that leads.

Violence was wrong when this terrible attack happened in Belfast, it’s wrong anywhere else in response. Let the police do their jobs.

Morally we should be very firm that what has happened in Palestine is shameful - but it’s also now obvious that not making that point clearly enough is losing our party support.
EXCLUSIVE: More than half of former Labour voters who intent to back a centre or leftwing party in the next general election have cited the government's record on Gaza as a reason for abandoning Labour, new polling shows.

As was clear during the recent campaign, the SNP are not interested in allowing women the spaces they are entitled to.

I have been visiting Dumfries for #CarersWeek to speak about carers networks and health service support in the community. There is some great work going on locally and across South Scotland.
