It's true: TypeScript surpassed Python and JavaScript to become the most-used language on GitHub. 📈
ALT A bump chart titled "Top 10 programming languages on GitHub 2023-2025," tracking the popularity ranking of languages from February 2023 to August 2025. The most significant change occurs at the top: TypeScript (yellow line) climbs from rank #3 to overtake both Python (green line) and JavaScript (blue line), finishing at #1 in August 2025. Python ends at #2, and JavaScript drops to #3. The middle rankings remain stable, with Java at #4, C# at #5, and PHP at #6 holding their positions throughout the entire period. The lower rankings show volatility: Shell (yellow-orange) rises from #8 to #7, displacing C (light green) which falls to #8. HCL (bright green) enters the top 10 list in early 2024, fluctuating with Go and C before settling at #9. Go (blue) finishes at #10.
