In honour of Psychology Month, weโ€™re sharing a deeply personal special episode of #CalledtoServeThePodcast. This time, our very own host, Const. Brennan Martin, takes the guest seat for a ๐Ÿ’™ heart-to-heart ๐Ÿ’™ with Sgt. Angie Tetley about his journey navigating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Const. Martin shares the exact moment he knew he had reached his breaking point, the physical symptoms he endured & the vital role psychology supports both within & outside the CPS played in his recovery. ๐Ÿ˜ Our Bridgeland Community Engagement Link has been in the neighbourhood for just over a year & has proved to be a beneficial resource for local residents. ๐Ÿค Throughout 2024, we connected with more than 200 community members & heard several concerns in relation to the perception of safety in the community. Through these conversations, we worked to provide solutions to some of these concerns. Our officers worked with The City of Calgary to make changes to traffic flow along 9A Street N.E., as well as shut down a problem residence along 10 Street N.E. & removed an encampment that was previously set up in an abandoned parking lot. We are pleased to say we will be back for another year in the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association & are looking forward to connecting with more Calgarians in 2025. ๐Ÿ“… Visit us every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Feb. 26, 2025.

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy 140th Birthday, Calgary Police Service! ๐Ÿš” Today, we proudly celebrate 140 years of dedicated service to our #YYC community. Since our establishment in 1885, we added a 'Detective Dept.' in 1906, introduced our Canine Unit in 1960 & the School Resource Officer program in 1974, just to name a few. Weโ€™ve seen everything from horseback patrols, fashion changes (goodbye, early 1900s wool uniforms), new technology & continuously adapted to meet the needs of Calgarians. As we reflect on our history, we honour the commitment of our members, past & present & thank Calgarians for 140 years of support. Here's to many more years to come! ๐Ÿš“ โ„น Interested in learning more about the CPS & our history? Visit @YouthLinkYYC for more information.

Chief Constable Mark Neufeld recently sat down to reflect on 2024 & look ahead to 2025. 2024 was a tremendous year for our Service, with many significant milestones reached โ€“ only a small fraction of these are highlighted in this video. We are exceptionally proud of these achievements. Thank you to all of our members & community partners who were instrumental in this work. As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to maintaining public safety & building relationships with all Calgarians.

Yesterday, we were one of several emergency services agencies participating in the kick-off event for #SirensForLife. This annual blood donation challenge encourages first responders & Albertans to donate blood throughout January. Many CPS members will roll up their sleeves this month to give blood alongside @RCMPAlberta, @STARSambulance, @ahs_ems & the Calgary Fire Department. Blood & blood products can help save lives & we are encouraging all Calgarians to donate during this month. @LifelineAlberta @CanadasLifeline #canadaslifeline #sirensforlife #2025abchallenge

Last Saturday, our Diversity Resource and Community Mobilizer Teams proudly hosted 'Reading with a Cop,' an initiative hosted by @YouthLinkYYC, Best Help Family Foundation, @CalgFoundation, @TrellisYYC, #CPSOfficers & #YYCYouth. Community organizations donated books & play uniforms for the children, who then spent the day with police officers & community volunteers. ๐Ÿšฆ Traffic stops are among the most dangerous aspects of police work. Every day across #YYC, officers remain vigilant for any behaviour that might threaten public or officer safety. Last week, during 2 separate traffic stops initiated due to traffic violations in District 2, officers noticed suspicious behaviour from the occupants. This prompted further inquiries, leading to searches of both vehicles. As a result, a Glock handgun, 17 rounds of ammunition, a fixed-blade knife, 178 grams of fentanyl & 45 grams of crack cocaine were removed from Calgary streets. Although not every stop results in the seizure of weapons or drugs, officers remain diligent & dedicated to ensuring a safe city for all Calgarians.

On Nov. 19, 2024, the CPS & the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) faced off in the 5th annual Porridge Cup, raising funds for @MarysMealsCA to support children in crisis in Ethiopia. Despite CFD's 70-63 win, the CPS is determined to reclaim the title next year. Thank you to all CPS participants! Every dollar raised makes a difference.

On Nov. 6, 2024, thousands of grade 9 students across Canada joined their parents for National Take Our Kids to Work Day! Since some of our members couldn't bring their kids to work, the CPS Youth Mentorship Team stepped in. The kids had a blast with hands-on activities, demos & tours of CPS sites like HAWC, Canine, Mounted, Physical Training & TAC. Huge thanks to everyone who made this day awesome! Our kids got a real taste of what it's like to be a police officer! ๐Ÿš“โœจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

CPS is proud to support the Movember Foundation once again by forming a team to raise funds for menโ€™s health & suicide prevention, prostate cancer & testicular cancer. CPS members are participating by either growing a moustache or joining the Move for Mental Health campaign, which involves running or walking 60 kilometres throughout November to raise funds. This year, CPS is competing against other law enforcement & first responder agencies across Canada to see which agency can raise the most funds throughout the month for the Great Canadian Police Challenge. Visit ca.movember.com/team/2234860 to follow along as CPS aims to become one of the top fundraising police agencies in Canada, while supporting a great cause. Join us in making a difference! ๐Ÿ’™ #Movember #GreatCanadianPoliceChallenge #MensHealth

We recently launched the Connection Initiative, a 5-week program in #YYC with the goal of creating a welcoming space where we & newcomer families can connect, learn & grow together. The program focused on crime prevention, cross-cultural education & getting to know the people behind the badge. Together, we can ensure a successful integration for all new members of our community.
