Labour’s centering of Right to Buy as the cause of the housing crisis ignores both the failure to build and the enormous subsidies already sunk into new social homes. @Ben_A_Hopkinson in City AM⬇️

While everyone is talking about Alan Milburn's review today and 1.25m NEETs, just remember this Labour government made an *active choice* to make it more expensive or businesses to employ young people 👇
Since Labour came to power, the cost of employing people has skyrocketed. Let's look at three workers to see what's really happened 🧵

A few people have reached out with questions about the Fellowship so we've extended the deadline by a week to get those last minute applications in. You've now got until June 7 to apply to join the 2026/27 cohort.
If you've ever thought Westminster doesn't get it, you're not alone. Politics is too often shaped by people who've never worked outside it. Our Thatcher Fellowship was created to change that ⬇️

‘The fellowship intake was truly exceptional... Not a meeting went by where I wasn't intellectually stimulated, challenged, and occasionally humbled.' @TimDier shares his experience as a Thatcher Fellow and why you should apply this year. 🧵👇

Good to see Dan (& @julianHjessop) citing @CPSThinkTank’s work on stamp duty on shares. As Oxera’s modelling for us showed, it really is the most bang for buck tax cut we could do.
Replying to @DanNeidle
Our full report here, which goes into *much* more detail and steps through where all the figures and charts above come from. taxpolicy.org.uk/2026/05/25/…

It's been a busy week at @CPSThinkTank towers - plenty of comment and opinion pieces from the team, plus hosting a great speech from the Shadow Chancellor. So ICYMI... 🧵

New ONS data shows net migration fell to 171,000 in 2025, the lowest level (outside of Covid) since 2008. It could fall to below 100,000 this year. Job done then? Not quite...🧵

Today's figures show a big drop in net migration. How has it happened and what does it mean? Our Research Director @MalvernianKarl breaks down the data 👇

Britain has some of the highest infrastructure construction costs in the world. The Birmingham Eastside Extension is a one mile tram addition. It cost six times more per mile and took three times longer to build than Dijon's entire tram network. One of the reasons for the cost and delay is the constant back and forth between central and regional government. Instead of being able to approve, fund and build the project, the Mayor of the West Midlands had to beg Westminster. Just the approval process alone took more than three years and produced paperwork longer than the extension itself. But there is hope. The Government is going to consult on devolving this approval process to Mayors and is setting up a mass transit taskforce. Just as the Fingleton review laid out how to bring down Britain's eye-watering nuclear construction costs, so too can this taskforce lay out how to bring down our transit infrastructure costs. gov.uk/government/news/new-m…

A year ago, Starmer promised to cut the burden of regulation on businesses by 25%. Within days that became something far weaker, built around a £22bn figure our research shows was deeply flawed. So what actually happened, and what does it mean for growth? Watch to find out. ⬇️

Great piece from Tony Lodge of @CPSThinkTank on the impact of central planning on the railways - less on-track competition, more empty slots being held for 'strategic reasons' thetimes.com/comment/columni…

The gap between Westminster and the private sector doesn't close itself. The CPS Thatcher Fellowship is the programme for people who want to do something about it. Fellows attend monthly dinners with senior politicians, economists and journalists, work through a curated reading list, and get access to party conferences and media training. We're looking for people from the private sector who want to better understand and engage with policymaking in Britain. If that's you, we'd love to hear from you. ⬇️ fellowship.cps.org.uk
