Despite being in a bit of a rough spot at the moment, America is still the greatest place on earth.
This entire account is great and really sums up this massive country pretty nicely.
Waffle House at 1 AM, thunderstorms, tubing, random mountain towns, absurd fast food menus, driving for hours
I think a lot of people visit expecting a consistent thing called "America" but instead get a giant collection of weird experiences connected by highways.

The problem is neither the left nor right cares about institutional protections of rights & procedure or constraints on power as a consistent principle. They both are fine trashing all of it in pursuit of their preferred outcomes and at the expense of their disfavored groups.

I have a trace amount of hope that experiencing the Trump 2.0 admin might teach Dems the importance of institutional structure, checks & balances, the notion of a constitution, etc. But something tells me they’ll learn nothing & elect left-flavored Trump in ‘28.
