This is a day of shock and sadness for all who knew and loved Arthur O. “Champ” Eve Jr., who passed unexpectedly early this morning.
I once said that “Wherever Democrats gather, Champ’s spirit is always present,” and that was an understatement.
No one loved this party more than Champ, or served it with more passion or loyalty.
Wherever people gather because they care about their neighbors; whenever people gather to get out the vote, deliver food to the hungry, or urge others to action against wrong in the cause of what’s right, Champ’s spirit was and always will be present.
Son of outstanding parents, the father of great children, a great man himself who wore the hats of
@ucibflo leader, ECDC vice chair, deputy BOE commissioner, coach, campaigner extraordinaire, mentor: that was his life’s work, and it is the legacy we will carry forward.
In a year already marked by loss for a legendary family that has done so much for so many, our thoughts and prayers go out to Champ’s children, his wife, Kim, Arthur Sr., his brothers Eric, Malcolm, and Martin, his sister, Leecia, his many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and to the countless others who today mourn the loss of a true friend.
I know I will miss Champ Eve and always treasure the years we stood shoulder to shoulder.
RIP.
