It's been a great #ASHG2024 so far, with most of the lab present. Great poster presentations from students @CUHMGGP students Jason Wilson and Lauren Dunn, both of whom had their abstracts selected as 'Reviewer's Choice'. Three more posters from the group this afternoon.

SACNAS continues to stand in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter and in remembrance of #GeorgeFloyd. Today is a day of accountability, but real justice will be served when Black people stop being victims of state violence. Until then, the work continues.

This is a profound and timely dilemma that we as a genetics community need to be having more conversations about. How do we define "disease"? And what are the implications of that? What is our responsibility wrt shaping policy?

"We also wanted to expose what we see as the problematic, conceptual disaggregation between “disease” and “people” in the debate over CRISPR. We argue that one cannot separate the two since having a genetic disease is a key part of one’s identity and of one’s lived experience."
